FTW

this morning i got my second step TB (even though they said they wouldn't give it to me since i already had a 2 step plus i get a one step every year) so yey, and thank you gods of the public health.
i also scanned and emailed my missing document for clinicals.  thank you gods of the PDF.
and then i found out i am elegible for achievement grant for next semester, thank you gods who pity broke college students with a good work attitude.
and then i was going to the beach this afternoon but i have to stay home and watch my ebay auction.
handssss offfffffffff !!  this angelic pretty dress is going to be mine! Ò____Ó
if i win it, i promise not to buy any lolita dresses next year and i will sell one of my old ones.
(in fact, i'll sell a bunch of old clothes or donate them to make room!)
it's the magical etoile series dress that i LOVEEEEEE.  i have the same dress in red, this one is in light blue and comes with a headband and socks.  MINE MINE MINE MINE MINEEEE...
only 43 minutes to go, i better not get out bid again!
besides, i earned this dress.  4 As.  2 Bs and only 1 C (i hate biochemistry).  hell yes. fall semester crash burn and die.

i better win this dress.

GIVE AND TAKE

i've been into makeup.
more make up than i used to be into, anyway.
i think this started from my tuesday/thursday schedule.
8am to 8pm is a lon time to be in school. so i started dressing more comfy than girly- jeans, sneakers and plain t-shirts. realizing this was easy to wear, i started sleeping longer and dressing quicker. i felt like a hobo, sometimes. so i started wearing make up to compensate for my lack of la mode.
things i love recently:
hard candy
i remember this brand from back when! they used to sell yummy nail polish color with jelly rings in a matching color. i wanted them so bad (this was in... 4th grade?) but the only place that sold it was liberty house and nieman marcus, as i remember. well now they are back! and they are cheaply sold at walmart! and they make tons of other fun stuff too like colored mascara. colored eyeliner, shadows and of course nail polish (now with plastic rings instead of jelly). i bought a ton of colors of the eyeliner and they add a subtle bling and brightness to your eyes! the gold is comparable to urban decay metal liners. the navy adn purple, however do not apply well. its... oily or something.

palladio black liquid liner
but this "organic" (??) liner apply nicely! it's my favorite black liner. and you don't need a ton of make up remover to take it off. it doesn't smudge (just let it dry a few seconds) and comes off with water! LOVEEEEE. for some reason, the navy blue does not go on as well. it is also oily.

loreal hip (high intensity pigments)
talk about stay put make up. the liner crayon (the fat twist up one) is the best non liquid liner i've ever used. it never smudges. it's also easy to use. even the expensive "make up forever" brand from sephora is not as smudge proof as this. just don't over apply. i also timidly tried the eyeshadows (color i tried is called daring, ironically!) and it is also smudge and crease proof. and yes, they are not kidding when they say "high intensity pigment [color]"! i'm going to try the other colors now. the results of daring were good!

clinique
one day i will tell you the story about my clinique lady, monrudee. i never thought one of the biggest influences of my life would be the clinique lady at macys. but, it is true. anyway, the clinique stuff i like: take off the day make up remover (the bestttt! but sExpensive. ponds cold cream is also nice if you are pake like me), tender heart lipstick, cupid blush. my perfect colors.

wet-n-wild mascara
i have lovely long natural lashes, thank you very much. but they never curl with the litte curling contraption and i always end up pinching my eyelid, haha. so i bought some self curling mascara. presto! really cheap and it actually works. wet and wild is a drug store brand but they have some surprisingly nice wares. just have to sift through some of their junk first to get the good stuff.

I HATE SAD GOODBYES

Today was sort of my last day of work. I'm still going to work on the
native plants but only offside, from home. I packed all my stuff
slowly and took care of my digital data and wished everyone a happy
holidays. I even baked an apple cake! And then abra cadabra! I'm gone!
I'm not really leaving, just physically leaving so, I probably won't
see most of the people again.
It's better this way because I hate sad goodbyes.

I'LL WRITE YOU HARMONY IN C...

hi.
i've been m.i.a.
i had final exams.
and final papers.
and final projects.
and final presentations.
but it's all coool now.
i got an A in photo.
and an A in blood banking (hell yessssssssss.)
and As in tissue culture and molec bio. :)
those were the classes i was most worried about and now i can sleep in peace. my idea of knocking out the caffeine gene in coffee beans with a transposon went over well (and i just pulled that out of my ass in a day) and my lab report turned out ok even though i had to draw some of the diagrams myself! :P a move in the twelfth hour saves me! (that and As and Bs on my quizzes, i guess.) and my case study presentation on Jk factors in blood banking got me an A! my partner and i got 100% on it and it pulled me from a B to an A! (which means i must've gotten a B on a final exam glory glory glory.... i only studied two hours for that!)
i'm amazed at my own good grades... i thought this was going to be the semester of hell!!!!
frak, i am never going to do 12 hour school days again! >:O
(famous last words.)

ok, but the horrors are not over yet.
i have all this stress over clincals for next semester.
tons of paper work to do and a TB test that i have to get re-done because of a miscommunication. plus my first aid is going to expire in april but clinicals lasts until may! and it is going to be litterally impossible to get recertified without missing a day in clinicals! at least my CPR is good for another year. and we had a required but not graded (that statement alone is fucked up) exam tomorrow and today we had a mandatory lab cleaning day.
to top it off with a cherry, i am siiiiick. i am feeling miserable and just want to press the fast forward button on this week. there is more more more but more stuff i can rant about (mostly the dumbassery of the professors and director of my program- and i am not afraid to say this to their faces if they pull another trick on me) but i don't even want to waste time thinking about it.

(on a seperate note, i would also like to hate on some of the counselors at my college who wait until the last minute to get their shit together and now i have to deal with them on my last fucking day of work with a bad attitude and a runny nose.)

i've been trying to take a zen approach to this. i will be the calm center of the universe. i am the zen master. it's so hard not to be passive agressive about the whole situation. instead i'm going to try to be optimistic. optimism. serenity sterility now. peace. calm. qi. relax. just keep telling myself it will be over. it is what it is. just conquer tomorrow and you are home free.

i really don't want to.

PS.
if there is such thing as good news,
the good news is
kaiser said business attire is preferred over scrubs.
yey, i get to dress up for a whole month (even though it's under my lab coat)!
time to shop for new outfits!

HELL YES.

ok, now i can enjoy my winter break.

I just read your lab report, and I like it.  It's got good background and explanations and the lay out is logical and clean... just wanted to let you know.

GO AWAY

yesterday was so heavy.
i thought the feeling of stress would go away when i'm done with school.

it didn't.

cool guys work in science

today i went to the UH sequencing facility.
i met Gabor, who is in charge there, and he talked about micro arrays, gene chips, and sequencing. He gave me a gene chip (one that was already used... i'm sure they don't hand out $500 gene chips for free, let alone to a student) that had the entire genome of the mouse on it. so awesome. i think i understand now what it means to "see the world in a grain of sand". it just blows my mind. Gabor is so cool, he has a great sense of humor. Lucas asked what types of gene chips they make. he said all the model organisms have gene chips- human (can you believe?! the entire human genome on a little piece of glass! 35,000 genes!), mouse, bunny, drosophila (the fruit fly), etc. but you can also get custom gene chips if you have a lot of $$$$. for example, he tells us, "if you want to put potato genes on a gene chip then you get potato chip."
LOL!

i want to tell you all about micro arrays and TOTAL AWESOMENESS that went down at cell bioengineering, inc. but i have two papers to write!

à tout à l'heure!

iWant -- bittersweet jewelry

i am totally in love with bittersweet NY jewelry!
beautiful, simple, symbolic, elegant pieces... j'adore!
the simplicity makes you want to look closer at the details. i really like the twig designs and the stamped letter pieces. especially the rings. i'm really into plain rings- you can wear one or two (or more, haha!) and they match everything! also, when you wear a lot of latex gloves, you wouldn't want chunky rings getting stuck in them and off to the trash!
i like how the diamonds are set in the rings. they don't stick out but you distinctly see them. less is more!
the designs are really unique (earthworm and maggot jewelry? i know some researchers working on C. elegans that would be very fond of that!) and fun (little vampire fangs!)
i'm going to have to save some money to own my own bittersweet. :)

here are some pictures from their lovely catalogue:
