imagine you have a pretty nifty work space... you have a pretty good idea where everything is because you've spent years there. and if you can't find something then you could call someone who knows where it is.

now, imagine it is split into four rooms and various other storage areas.

and these four rooms are across the street from your original workspace which you no longer have access to.

each of these rooms are locked with their own key/combo unless someone is inside and will open the door.

one of these rooms is on the basement floor of a building and the others are on the third.

oh, and the elevators are out of order.

the hardest part of research lab is not having to take the stairs between the two rooms... it's the combination of stairs AND not knowing where everything is! is the thing you are looking for upstairs? downstairs? next door? in this room in a place not obvious? it's even worse when you are in the middle of something and then oh shiiiiiiet blah-blah-blah is upstairs!! *cap everything up mini alcohol spray down take off gloves etc, etc, run up to the third floor grab whatevers (sometimes you have to hunt for it first!) run back down stairs and then try to pick up where you left off* i don't know how alan and dr. b and the other tc crew do this on a daily basis. they are superhuman! over then next few days i'll be doing some campy stuff. hope the elevator gets repaired soon, or else i'm ditching my bike at home! get enough of a work out with those blasted stairs! é__é

here's the place i'm describing. ordinarily i'd be slightly creeped out working here. now, i am only exhausted.

worked last night, then came home and biked to KCC. spent the day at the lab (scary autoclave-boiler room adventures!) then biked home. did a few chores (not as much as i wanted) and half passed-out on the sofa. :)
so much fun biking today- got stuck in the center lane on kapiolani in front of nordstrom and then had to sprint until the convention center because i couldn't switch lanes! and then... tackling the beast: KILAUEA. actually from the edge of ala wai golf course all the way to KCC is a hill of evilness. my legs are so angry at me- i don't know if i can do this multiple times a week (planning on putting in some lab hours to do campy stuff again)! maybe i will give up and buy a bus pass next month. the ride home was really nice, tho. all down hill 'cept for the last mile (hey wait, that's kind of what the trip there was like too, i guess) i think it was just nice to fly down from KCC towards town instead of groaning my way up on 3rd gear.
had my camera with me but didn't shoot that much- i usually stash everything in le backpack when i'm on the road.

Top of the hill

wish i had a pov like these guys!!!

(note: this is not the type of bike riding i do. :P i'm not awesome enough to do this kind of thing... but one day i'd like to try!)

ok, that's all for today.

best budsies

i want to try bike polo!

i also want to make light stencils and mount it on my bike (because getting a mini projector is probably too expensive)!

i found both videos via ✪ candy cranks ✪ !

hi guyssssss.
i would just like to point out that if any of my entries don't really make sense or have really bad typos (not normal typos but REALLY strange typos) it may be because i usually write when i get home from work or i get home from work and then go out an do something and then write. meaning- about the time i am about to go to sleep. my logic may or may not be a little fuzzy. when i think back about my post (when i'm fully awake, at work for instance) sometimes i don't remember what i wrote about.

so... yeah. sometimes i don't make sense. my bad!

i just finished rereading dark tower 3 (see, i can't remember if i wrote about this before). it used to be my least favorite of the set because i didn't like lud or the mansion scene. mayhaps my previous judgment was too harsh. the idea of the mansion is great. i love haunted houses. but the whole hand-coming-out-of-the-wall seemed a little cheesy to me at first. i was hoping for a more subtle evil like in 1408 (the book, not the movie, ye gods! the movie was a disaster!) but i admit that i flew through all the action so i guess it's not a bad scene. as for lud, i don't hate lud. i actually like lud! i love the scenes that are similar to our own when/world and i like seeing how awesomeness has gone to waste over time. the drumming and the corpses don't bother me either as well as the streets of neurotoxin and the execution lines as the train goes through. what i really REALLY hated was Gasher. I think it's because i'm slightly germophobic and the idea of being touched, let alone dragged through town by a man oozing pus from his face is really gross. i can't imagine the smell of this guy. i am absolutely DISGUSTED by this filthy man.
nonetheless, i have enjoyed reading this [again] and recommend this book and the whole series! some of my favorite parts: River Crossing elders, roland's "just joking", the mechanical awesomeness of SHARDIK (please call north central positronics!), and blaine asking Eddie and Susannah to prove they are from New York.

i am tempted to say that this is a really key book in the series because it fills in a lot of gaps, but hey, ALL the books are really important in the series! you can't really understand the story if you are missing any of the books! in fact, you would better understand the story if you read books IN ADDITION to the seven in the series! (everything's eventual, hearts in atlantis and insomnia for example. even eyes of the dragon contain little tidbits that help too.)

i'm powering on to book four (i'm half way finished already) because... you have to! three ends in a cliff hanger (and not like the other books, it's a REAL cliff hanger) so i figured i'd reread four. and i suppose i only read book five once so i'll have to reread that next. i also only read six once and powered through it to get the last book, at that, so i will probably reread that next. and hey, when you're so close to the end, why not reread the 7th book too? this is how i always end up rereading all the books i love, haha. i haven't read anything new in ages!

this post ended up a lot longer than i had anticipated so here's a song to wash it down with:

i heard this song on the radio last night:

rap/r&b isn't really my style but i am drawn to this song!

upon a repeat listening in the quiet of my own home (and the bass of my little woofer)... i think i like it because it reminds me of this:

and since we are having a very musical post, here's the first song to pop up on my ipod when i was biking today:

i thought it was a nice coincidence since they are all riding bikes in the video. it's also a great song for cruising the sidewalk. hope it's not illegal to sing [badly] while bike riding, haha!!

also noticing that youtube keeps recommending Cults' Abducted. i don't know if this is due to recent browsing history or pure coincidence. i don't really dig Abducted as much as:

but i friggen love the Cults! also makes great bike riding music. hope they are releasing an album soon?

and now for something completely different!

2CYCLE (part 3: later green adventures)

theses are my continuing bike tales!
you should probably take a look at part 1 and part 2 first. :)

i was on a bike hiatus for a while. got too busy and it was too inconvenient to take out (it was chained to a ladder behind my house. T____T ) but i liked to take it out to tweeball because i'm close to booth park.

as i started spending time with le boyfriend and co., the green giant came out for another adventure! my favorite was to WCC. here are some pics from that time. ♡♡♡

brake too fast! (pt 2)

sadly, i knew i had neglected my bike for too long. it was a rustball. and the gears made a suspicious KERRRANGGGGG! noise. (ok, slight exageration. but it wasn't shifting gears correctly.) and the seat post wouldn't stay up. and i was just ready for something new and speedier.

which leads me to...

part 4! ;D

finally got my license in the mail yesterday!

That yellow sticker

now, dance around your house like a crazy person!

this is pretty much how happy i am now!!!

this is how i want to spend the next few months. :)

i did really well on my math final so i think i will open a new deck of cards tomorrow to celebrate. :D blues, reds, or blacks? \(º u º)/

2CYCLE (part 2: the green giant)

last post i left off at 2CYCLE (part 1: beginnings). here's my continuing bike tales.

finally, an adult bike of my own! got yet another hand me down, but this time it was barely used! a green giant mountain bike! no pun intended! it was a giant brand, green colored. 18 speeds, methinks. coincidentally, i also had a green bike helmet. and my dad bought me a bike rack (one of those seat attachments that go over the back wheel) which was also green. so for a brief time i was known as the green hornet.

the other day at work my shoelaces were stuck in my shoe and it brought back a memory which i had forgotten about! i used to have these blue and silver adidas shoes and the laces were super long. even double knotting them didn't help. i didn't want to stuff the laces inside my shoe (uncomfortable!) so i used to stick them under the bottom lace- closest to my toe. now, i consider this tacky. but i used to wear it like this every day because i didn't want my laces stuck in my gears!

i think i tracked the most miles with the green hornet during my summer of P.E. i took high school P.E. in the summer so i wouldn't have to deal with it during the regular year. i rode my bike over auwaiolimu street to school (a mere 1.3 miles, according to google maps) but damn. it is a steep hill.

so over the hill, then 5 hours of P.E.- running swimming and then some kind of activity- and then over the hill home again. i don't ever remember being so exhausted in my life!! i don't think i could do that now. (ask me when was the last time i ran a mile, heh)

another great time with the green giant was when i went cruising at magic island with king danny, yummiestars, trevorrrrr, and jerry the great. the fergie song GLAMOROUS just came out and the boys were singing out loud while we were riding!

also the first time i ever rode with long pants... had to roll it up beacuse it kept getting stuck in my chain. but i was wearing one pink knee-hi sock and one blue one, whoops! we rode from late afternoon until we couldn't see anymore and then ate at zippy's. yeah... i don't really have much of a social life so this was a big stand out in my memory. just good times. :)

2CYCLE (part 1: beginnings)

after YEARS of hemming and hawing,

here she is in all her white glory:

white giant

it's a GIANT hybrid [road + mountain] 21 speed.
i've been adding my "personal touches" here and there since i brought it home; come ride with me if you want to see! (OR, more likely, just wait till i develop my next roll of film... only 5 shots left on this roll so not much longer.)

thought i'd share some bike related stuffs in celebration of this happy happy bike day!

(cue music: THE FEAST! by ENTER SHIKARI )

my first bike was purple. not even purple... it was lavender. a hand me down. the tiniest bike ever!! even though i must've been only 7 or 8 it still felt like a tiny bike. it was either a huffy or a tuff nuff. i had white grips with streamers (but i cut them off) and a white plastic basket in front. i learned to ride it on roosevelt high school track, which was across the street from my house. the good old days of dirt track... it was more like learning bmx/moto cross because of the huge pot holes in the track. bonus: when it rained it became an awesome moat. obviously, white handlebars didn't stay white long.

here's what the field looks like:
from the higher up images it's under construction. if you zoom in closer you can see the new field completed.

before the purple bike i'm pretty sure i had a tricycle. it was like a bulky scooter because you could stand on the back and there were no brakes. weeee!

my next bike, also a hand me down, was a silver bike. i can't remember what brand although the word "fox" is coming to mind. it had coaster brakes and a front wheel hand brake (which i never ever used). i used this bike for yearssss, was my favorite! it was severely rusted but i helped my dad clean it up a little with some steel wool. also, it didn't have a kick stand so my dad frankensteined one from another bike my neighbor was getting rid of. it was super hard to move it because we had to bend it to fit on the bike properly, hahahaaa... some days, i wish i still had coaster brakes. so much fun to skid down the drive way (we used to live on the top of a small hill). i remember we bought new (OMG, not a hand me down!) black foam grips for this bike but since it was left out doors all the time it was disintegrating! your hand are all black after riding because the foam was crumbling. also, i had a red chain lock and the combination was 2-4-1-6. amazing the things you remember, no?

the next bike which i rode for only a year or so was a red-orange color bike (ANOTHER hand me down). it was a boy's bike, slightly bigger than my silver bike. i remember riding it and thinking, THIS IS CRAP. i went back to my too-small silver bike. we left this on the side of the road and it was gone the next day. hope it made some kid happy. :)

the next bike i rode wasn't really my bike. my mom had (has) a red and silver bike and it was the first adult bike i rode. i think it was a gift from a family friend, i just remember it came in the mail in a huge box... i had no idea they could mail things that big! it's some generic brand i 've never heard of. it had several gears (new to me!) and front and back wheel hand brakes. i went on most of my good adventures with this bike.

my silver bike goes dormant for some time while i enjoy the luxuries of multiple gears.

the farthest i ever went on a bike was from my old house (re: roosevelt high school) to kahala via mccully - university - kapahulu - around diamond head - and finally kahala. and then i had to ride back home. :P yes, it took me all day. and i wasn't even in high school yet! i don't think i've gone that far since then.

this turned out to be a super mega huge post,
so i'm breaking it up- stay tuned for part two!
