i love laughing at myself.

this morning at work i was in hematology making slides.
i usually use this technique :

sorry if there's strange music or talking, i'm watching this on mute... have no idea what they are saying

but thought i'd change it up a bit and use this technique :

sorry if there's strange music or talking, i'm watching this on mute... have no idea what they are saying

it's 6:45am and i've been up all night and the last of the rounds are still coming back. i'm trying to crank out the slides as fast as i can but you still have to have some semblance of technique- fast slides can be sloppy and they're hard to read. i've got the drop of blood on there and i have the second slide pushing it back (refer to second video) and i pushed it back too far before i went forward... i went off the back of the slide! ahahahahaaa...

ok, this might not sound that funny to you but i thought it was pretty funny... everything is a little more crazy when you're tired, no? like a "whoops i backed my car up too much and went off the curb" kind of funny. anyway, i was thinking, man i am so tired i can't even make a blood smear! and i started giggling. of course at that very moment angela (who is just starting her shift) comes around the corner and is giving me a look that says why are you standing here by yourself laughing/i'm working with a crayzeeee person. and of course that just makes laugh some more!
the last time you saw a person standing all by them self laughing/talking, what were you thinking? CRAZY BIAAAATCH! it's my general rule of thumb not to approach these people alone or without pepper spray.

moral of the story:
1. i should have finished drinking ALL of my 3am coffee (i usually finish it but for some reason i only drank half today)
2. get more sleep (not going to happen until this semester is over)
3. try to act like a normal person around my coworkers all the time

here's another example of my slight insanity. feel free to laugh with me. 8D

happy sunday!

i think i was channeling in the music spirits last night.
ever have one of those days where you just wake up and there's a song in your head?

i had a power nap before work last night and i woke up thinking "All Apologies...".
at work i was hearing it in my head all night! and it was a quiet night too- kori on the floors, sheila doing her chemistry competency, iris doing her CAPs in blood bank, and i was in heme with only the LH to keep me company.

the all-mighty LH 780

meaning lots of silence to have songs stuck on repeat in your head. around 3am i had a quick coffee break. no one else in the break room so i turned the channel to VH1 and Lo! Nirvana is on! not All Apologies (it was Lithium, if you kennit) but still! what are the odds of Nirvana being on! they usually only play modern music on that channel!

when that song was over it was something else i didn't recognize so i flipped to MTV and some jay-z song was on. i didn't recognize it (heh, sorry) but i noticed the theme for AMTV was "classic clips". i thought to myself, they are probably going to play a lot of r&b music was crazy chicks or big action scenes or lady gaga epicness videos. i barely watch music videos and i can only think of a handful of really stand out scenes from music videos, besides gaga, anyway... like Blink 182 I Miss You with the weird fur-less cats and the awesome tarantula and mark playing a stand up bass with black nail polish...

guys in suits are never out of style

...and then the next song that came on was Blink 182 I Miss You!
can you believe it?! I swear, i only speak the truth. the exact song i was thinking of played! that coincidence kind of pumped me up for morning rounds (even though the song is kind of a ✂♥ for me).  of course then i had THAT song stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

here's a spotify link with the songs mentioned in this blog.
and i'm also including 5 bonus songs (because a three song playlist is kind of sad, no?) that i picked from the first five songs to play with my itunes on shuffle.  maybe they will show up somewhere else in my day, since i've got good music vibes today. :)

two kinds of glass...

1. 50m f/1.2

i've bought almost all of my camera gear from keh so i trust them completely when it comes to used bodies and lens. however. they don't have this lens used. only a new one which would cost me an entire paycheck. T^T i guess i could always sell my 70-200... any takers? :P

2. double spirals in sangria

i also have jewelry from somatic glass before, bought via baf.

who's ready for soup?

the artist is so nice about answering questions! and everything is so beautiful and delicate looking. i'm hoping baf will add the double spirals to their line up so i don't have to go through emails and paypal to get them.

My latest obsession is Smoked Salt lip elixir from Tokyo Milk

It has an interesting and unique aroma that I can't get enough of! It's a smoke flavor but not like barbeque or anything... more like a wood smell but there's no sandal wood in it nor is it perfume-y. It's reminding me of something warm and comforting... but I can't quite place it. I also don't dare to call it a flavor, it doesn't taste like anything when you put it on. You can clearly smell it when it's in the tin but when you put it on it's not strong at all! The best part is when you first apply it and then suck in a breath of air- that's the magical part- the aroma just wakes up your senses! I also have the salted caramel elixir which is just as delightful. Not too sweet, just a bit of dark molasses-y caramel. ^____^ I highly recommend both these flavors and may even try a few others from this line; the absinthe and clove cigarette sound delightful.

on a more technical note, I have grown a liking to lip balms in pots (as opposed to sticks or rollers). You can open it, use 1 clean... sterile... Q-tip (or swab), take what you need, and close the container. Then you apply it and throw the swab away. No double dipping! You never contaminate your original stock! And you can share a tasty balm with a friend- but only if said friend has STRICT aseptic technique as yourself (wishful thinking). ;)

Whether you practice my germophobic habits or not, please give Tokyo Milk a try! Something unique and curious for your senses.

speaking of blackness, have you seen my ink? ;)

neo geo

heme group from hemoglobin

Houdini the rabbit (but sometimes i like to think of him as Captain BunBuns)

I don't know if I could commit to a whole sleeve of ink but there are a few more things that I'm waiting to get tattooed. just have to find a spot for it... if you've got ink, I want to see!
