father furher don't be mad at me!

great weather today, decided i wanted a bikeventure to the beach.
i was a good girl and went to school first then hustled home to get my two wheeled vehicle.  i checked the tire pressure (good) and gave it a once over (bad).  both of my spoke cards are gone!  ok, i think i knew this but forgot until today.  i'm also missing both of my bar end caps (when did this happen?) and my bell (WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN! :U AHHHH!).  pauvre vélo!  i'm also missing one bungee cord for my rack (but i stole one from my dad) and some plastic near the rear gear (but that's no biggie).  and my rear reflector is cracked (sun is evil to plastic).  but other wise everything is fine!
i guess this is all to be expected because my bicycle lives outside and it rolls every where in every kind of weather.  but i was pretty mad about my missing bell and slightly disheartened by everything else.  on the other hand, my ridding buddy

my ridding buddy

was in fine shape.

revenge was to be had, though.  i was transitioning from a bike lane to no bike lane street and decided to hop on to the sidewalk instead (bad).  on the sidewalk i went to the next crosswalk and had to get off my bike to press the crossing signal button.  forgot i was using the toe straps (foot is connected to the pedals) on the left side so i swing my leg off the right side and try to take my left foot off and instead did an awkward sideways fall.  how embarrassing.  the bike was ok... because it fell on my foot >___< and you might have noticed there is not a lot of meat on the top of your foot... it's a little bruised but not as damaged as my pride.  i guess i deserved it, sorry bicycle!  i will replace your missing parts soon!

anyway, rode my bike to magic island.  finished up my chemistry notes on a picnic table

ipod photo dump

went for a dip

ipod photo dump

then did some calculus studying while i dried off.
i changed (if i was a superhero, my special power would be changing outfits in public.  i am a master of this!) into dry stuffs and then biked home.  i think the bike ride was more enjoyable than the beach.
can't wait for summer then i can do this all the time!!

making more progress on 11/22/63.  the suspense is mounting.  texas sounds scary and ghetto (although in real life i'm sure it's a perfectly nice state).  i am scared of the jimla.  i miss swing dancing.
george (or well, i guess stephen king.  geez, i am so engrossed in the story that i imagine george is telling the story) specifically mentions In the Mood, a quintessential hop song,

and hellzapoppin, an amaaaaazing crazy fun dance (it even has its own movie)

i think the last time i lindy hopped was... 4 or 5 years ago.  T___T  this book makes me miss it so much!  i'm going to see if they still have swing at ong king... i really want to go!

hungry for more, i looked for the ultimate lindy hop showdown (ULHS) videos from this year.  best of the best!  doesn't it make you want to go dancin? :)  i love to watch the jack and jill rounds- shows just how good these dancers are!  pulling all the stops even with random partners!!  they have great musicality.

super crazy tosses:

i've probably posted this before, but this is one of my favorites:

falling asleep writing this... until next time!

coincidence and chance is what i originally titled this blog because it seems to happen a lot. here's an interesting example;
i recently blogged about libraries (TH1RT33N) and about how i'm frequenting the downtown library these days. when you are there at least twice a week, it's hard to have overdue books, right? well, apparently this is not the case. another thing i resolved to do this year is to stop having library fines and return everything on time and try to read or watch everything i borrow. i borrowed a trade paperback about the flash and forgot that i had it! i happened to see it in my stack of comic books (the ones i own) today and was really upset with myself! ten days over due! T____T and i didn't even read it! i took it to school with me today and read it on the bus on my way to the library after class. it turned out to be the missing link i was looking for- i found out how the flash returned after the spectre mind wipe. i'm kind of upset that i didn't read this sooner; i love wally even more after this story. i liked how linda was written, it's so humanizing to see that she simultaneously supports and hates him. i even felt a little sympathy for captian cold! what's up with that!? it was a good read right under my nose and i didn't get to it before the due date. no excuses, i just forgot.

what i mean to say is i wasn't thinking about this book at all when i wrote my last few posts. i had no idea that i had an over due book when explaining my library virtues, i had no idea that all i had to do was look at the stack of books in my room if i wanted to see what happened to wally west's memory, and i had no idea that i was going to break one of my not-resolutions when i wrote about my other bad habits.

just last night, when i was reading more of 11/22/63 (which i mention here), i stumbled upon the phrase "the past seems to harmonize with itself". and as i write this post, the phrase is reverberating in my mind.  it's like everything in the past few days was leading up to this revelation; trying to tell me something (and in the mediocre world of codi, it is nothing deep and zen- the library gods just wanted me to return my shit on time), and that's pretty cool.
do you believe in kismet?
i try so hard to be a logical and non-superstitious person.
but it's strange times like these that make me wonder...

hey guysss, didja know, it's medical laboratory professionals week!!
please be extra nice to med techs, phlebotomists, pathologists, lab assistants, researchers and other lab scientists that you know!  did you know 80% of all medical decisions are based on laboratory test results? we're working hard behind the scenes so you doctor can make you well. n___n

look at me still talking when there's science to do... going to fall asleep to alpinisms now, i'm in hematology later tonight. ;D

so... who watched the finale of Young Justice yesterday???
i have only one thing to say:

can't wait for season two!!!!!
stay whelmed.

i don't make new year resolutions.
at least i don't consider my goals to be new year resolutions.
everyday should be a day where you strive for your goals! but january just has that certain effect. you open a new calendar and look at all the pages- all the days- ahead of you and think, i have *this* amount of time to do something. i wish calendars were circular, like a clock. you just turn the dial and the months keep going. but instead, we have linear time keepers so you view the year as having a start and an end instead of time infinitely rolling on.
further more, it seems like new year resolutions are setting yourself up for despair. seeing so much time ahead of you can make you feel more ambitious than you really are... i like to set the bar low so i don't have to fall far ;)
but anyway, this year i decided it would be good for my health to stop staying up for 24 hours at a time. my schedule causes me to sleep at odd hours of the day, sometimes i will wake up and it's too late to go back to sleep before work! so i stay up, then go to work, then go to school, and then go to the research lab or run errands, and then come home to do chores and eat and before you know it- lo! you've been up for over 24 hours! you would think it's easy to pass out but when you have stuff to do, it's easy to lose track of time. you can't go to sleep, too much to do!
i've been really good since january, budgeting my time; even sleeping for two hours a day is better than none. but this month i've reverted to my old ways. i keep getting over booked and i've done four 24 hour days this month alone! two in the same week! -____- i'm so disappointed with myself.

i really can't wait for school to be over so i can catch up on sleep.
on the other hand, i wish there was some way to replace sleep. what if we never had to sleep? wouldn't it be so much more useful?!

waaah... yesterday i went shopping and found some cute stuffs at forever21. i have so much clothes... really shouldn't be shopping more. but i got two super cute sweaters and two dresses (and four pairs of socks), for only $90, how could i resist...

this dress is perfect! the back is really unique and it has sleeves (when i need to cover my tattoos) and it hides all your bra straps. i wish there were other colors and patterns too.

leopard crisscross back dress

i also got this swearter, in pink and the beige one too. i could use more light colors for spring- my wardrobe is 80% black/gray and 20% other colors. in particular, i have one peach and beige dress that could use a sweater and my sister (the queen of beige) said my white sweater looks strange next to pastel colors.

zip-up sweater

one of the socks i found had apples on them. soooo cute! i wear knee high/tall socks to work all the time so i have a pretty big collection, even though no-show socks seem to be the style now.

borrowing my sister's shoes for this pic. vans run in the family. :D

finally, i found this really cute tunic/dress. again, trying to increase my beige/light/spring color wardrobe. this would match with the pink sweater, no? i saw it in the pink color too but i thought it was a little *too* girly with the ruffles and all. at least with the brown i could wear it with light colors or dark colors. i'm still on the fence about this dress, i might change my mind. :P

tiered mini dress

perhaps you can help me decide?
i'll get dressed and show some pictures soon. ^^

after shopping i met up with le boyfriend and ate at nordstrom cafe. it was his first time there and he really liked it! i had mushroom ravioli and creme brulee. he had chicken and penne in tomato alfredo and a bowl of tomato bisque. we shared a bleu cheese pear salad. yuuummmm.

he has informed me the season finale of young justice is today so i am going to watch it now and will be sharing my reactions shortly. after that, i plan to eat dinner, do some chemistry notes and then take a nap before work (blood banking tonite).

ack! it's almost friday again, must do the friday5 before it's too late!
if you'd like to answer or read others' answers see here:
this is from last friday, 4/13

Here are five questions to commemorate National Library Week in the United States as it comes to a close.

What were the libraries at your elementary and high school like?
school libraries were too small. not enough of what i wanted and too many rules to let my imagination run free. also, it was practically against the rules to hang out inside.

What’s interesting about your nearest community library?
i love going to the hawaii state library (downtown). i love just being there and browsing the sections but i really appreciate the rotating community art displays in the lobby. there is currently some works by high school students now.

What is the longest you’ve had an overdue library book?
i still have one book... i think when i was younger i just walked out with it. the due date is 1997. i'm scared to bring it back!! @___@
but once i had books out for over a month and when i brought it back i had a $35 fine and my card was deemed invalid.
i would also like to note that my wallet was constantly stolen in high school and i no longer have my original card. i got my first card when i was 7; could barely write in cursive. then my card was stolen and then it was revoked and now i'm on to my third card. >___< at least i don't have the green card like my mom still does. Among people you know who aren’t already librarians, who would make a good librarian?
i know a doctor of molecular biology who is very well read and is always recommending books for me. but he rarely lends them out these days, people get into bad habits of returning.

Who is your favorite librarian?
i don't have a good rapport with librarians nowadays. my "home" library used to be manoa public library (i even had my first "job" there, volunteering for the summer reading program when i was in 4th grade. i got to stamp a lot of books and read a lot of books on the job too) but since they moved into the little portables during rennovation i've been all over. i spent a lot of time at mccully but nowadays i usually spend my afternoons downtown. the only drawback is that the place is so big, i don't get to know all the librarians. furthermore, when you're a kid, the librarian is like the tour guide to the world of books. but once you get the hang of call numbers and boolean searching there isn't much you can't do on your own. the only librarian i can recall by name is Mrs. Yap. she taught me a funny song about coca cola but i don't really remember the words now.

Thanks for participating, and if you can read this, thank a librarian sometime this weekend!

in honor of the now-past library week, here are two pictures i have of the temporary manoa library:

dreams come true girl

manoa library

*sigh* that magical place of dreams where imagination is just on the next shelf...

speaking of which, i've just started reading- and frankly can't stop- stephen king's 11/22/63. i am so enamored with time travel... changing the past, or rather being unable to change the past. PLUSSSSSS it's all happening in my favorite era- the 50s. there's even a bit on swing dancing, which i have also partaken in. i've read half of this novel in two days, i have a feeling i won't be doing much studying until this weekend (when i finish this book).

what a disappointment, only 5 posts so far (including this one) and more than half of april gone! i really meant to update over the weekend since i was off friday, saturday, and sunday but you know... better living life than typing about it. ^^
on friday the thirteenth i got a 13 tattoo. i drew it up so it's hidden in a key:

so i can lock up all my bad luck. ^o ^
prior to tattoo time, i had ochem lab and successfully made the wittig reaction produce GLOW STICKS!!! yes, we made wittig reagent and reacted it with cyalume and hydrogen peroxide to make crazy glowing stuff!!

ipod photo dump

ipod photo dump

then on saturday i actually studied chemistry (paid off, aced my quiz today!) but also did a little biking (home to downtown to UH Manoa).

finally ended the day with my usual gang, talking comic books and cute hand bags and watching youtube videos of darth vader doing tai chi (who wants to learn tai chi with me? anyone?).

day three of my weekend longtemps was bai san in the morning, then biked ho`omaluhia nature preserve (hills! :P ), followed by mexican food in kailua and then horsing around again until the cows come home. i only have three words for you: FAST DON'T LIE.

(but i do say, cantina adidas was 10x better commercial:

more tomorrow, back to my book for now.
aural candy for today- song i have on repeat while i pound out chemistry notes:

at the end of all things

i can't think of anything exciting to blog about today so here are 5 random things that come to mind:

1. all shave ice that i eat are compared to my favorite shave ice: waiola. yes, there are rants and raves of how delicious matsumoto, shimazu, ice garden shave ices are... and they are all good (is there such thing as bad shave ice?) but my favorite is still waiola. my criteria includes: 1) shave/ice fine-ness 2) syrup choices and flavor 3) available toppings 4) $$$ 5) customer service/overall experience. obsessed? no, just hungry. runner up to waiola? it's not on the menu, but you can order shave ice from Prince Court restaurant at Prince Hotel. it feeds several people (read: huge) and is rose & maple flavored syrup with vanilla ice cream and fruits. you will be full- nay, stuffed- from the buffet. but there is ALWAYS room for shave ice. *don't whisper too loudly about this secret menu item~ there is only one guy who makes it!* ;)

2. getting tattooed this friday, the 13th! been too long since my last ink...

3. i bought "Calculus II for Dummies". i don't care what that makes me because this book IS THE BEST FUCKING THING THAT HAPPENED ALL SEMESTER. i really should have looked into this earlier, it's so helpful!!! i bought it as an ibook and read it on my ipod touch. this is also another thing that i never thought i would like (the screen is damn small and really shiny) but i have plowed my way through several book already, just picking up a few pages while waiting for the bus, riding on the bus, waiting in lines, waiting for the microwave... i feel like some kind of nonstop multitasker because now i never "do nothing" but i am really enjoying reclaiming my reading time. besides calculus for dummies i am currently reading bikesnobnyc's first book (it's so hard not to LOL in public!!) and will soon finish up world war z. then i will start on the book @yummiestars lent to me (a physical book- i don't know how to lend intangible books yet or if it's even possible), the perks of being a wall flower. and then april 24th should have passed and WIND THROUGH THE KEYHOLE another chapter in the Dark Tower series will be released and i will lapse back into my stephen king exclusive diet of novels. as for comics, i am about to finish Titans Around the World (Teen Titans) and i finished something about the Flash at the library yesterday... i need to fill in some gaps, when did wally realize he's the flash again?! and i want more adventures of hal as the spectre! (yes, i know there are several spectre invlovements in the JSA TPs, but so far it's not as interesting as i hoped.)

4. after watching young justice i posted my reaction shock on facebook. le boyfriend responded:

this is how i know we were meant to be together. ;D

and super siiiiick anaconda and escalator spreads. :D

ok. to sleep.

my friday five for this week, on time for once!
you can answer yourself or read others' responses here:
thanks, @scrivener!

When did someone last knock on your door, and who was it?
@yummiestars knocks often~ we are neighborhoodies. :)

When did someone last call you on the phone, and who was it?
my dad

catch of the day

just called me up, asking what size bike tires i have (700c). someone at his work is selling their aerospokes but it's not the right size. besides, i'm happy with my current pinkness.

When did someone last hand you a business card, and who was it?
my, it's been so long since i've last exchanged cards, business, MOO, or otherwise! definitely a lost art in our society.

When did you last get info out of a phone book?
earlier this week i got the number for beretania safeway. they have this really good fried chicken in the deli section that was on sale for $6. it's huge juicy (not dry) pieces, flavor rivaling KFC, and it's cheap!

When did someone last hand you a pen, magnet, calendar, or other trinket with his or her business info on it, and what was it?
i got some UH goodies from the INBRe session i went to yesterday. a USB and a lanyard, both very useful!

i think my INBRe research presentation and i think it went rather well. decided to bike from home to JABSoM so i wore my shirt dress (bought at target!) and my saddle shoes

saddle up
(they are quite slippy on the pedals... should've put my toe straps on)

like this outfit:

but i was minus the tights (it's been so hot and muggy!), minus the fedora and plus a cycling cap

took me fifteen minutes to get there, yey downhill!
with lots of time to cool off and check in before the poster viewing.

here's my poster:

rainbow graphs

you have no idea how difficult it is to fit all the info on one page!! and this is barely scratching the surface of all the data we have (i live in excel spreadsheet hell). we will be submitting this to the ASM/ASCLS meeting in a few weeks too. cash prizes involved, wish me luck!

i'm still working all weekend but at least i have an extra day off school. this morning, since i got to stay home, i danced around my room to FOUR YEAR STRONG.
have fun!

Turn around and cross the line you so casually walk between function and fashion
Are you dressed to kill or dressed to impress?
Don't act like you can do better than this

Rise or Die Trying is one of my favorite albums- one of those you can listen from start to finish with a huge smile! plus the cover art made me LOL:

listen to the whole album on spotify:

i'm answering the 3/30/12 friday five!
(a little late, i know, but better late than never!)
you can answer or see others' answers here:
thanks, scrivener! :)

How well do you handle the sight of blood?
ahahahahaaaa, what a great question! very well, i should hope... handling blood is my occupation. ;D

How well do you handle bumpy plane rides?
i find it exciting! but i haven't been on a plane in... 6 years.

How well do you handle spicy food?

How well do you handle (or think you could handle) yourself in fisticuffs?
i had to google fisticuffs. obviously, i have no chance of survival.
i have zer0 athletic ability- especially in my noodle arms. i would get pulverized. my strategy would be, to quote Arthur, King of the Britains, "RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY!".

How well do you handle a chef’s knife?
i'm pretty good. i was raised by a chef. :D
but i must admit, i don't practice as much as i should.

since we are on the subject of hands,
have you seen cardistry death match 11 round 4? ladislas x tobias

that video led me to this other amazing video:

if you are a fan of ladislas, he has a free tutorial for COX UKER
this is a simple one, but ingenious! also, it's false!

i love one handed cuts. :)

on the other HAND,
maybe you are a fan of tobias instead...

this one post a month thing is not intentional. :P
my goal: at least 15 posts for april- so every other day. more if i can!

what have i been up to for march?
mostly eating

Chicken pesto panini

parcel post

Really proud of myself! Never thought in a million years I'd be able to do this kind of math. :D

and shopping

carried on the wind
(this dress wasn't on sale T___T but it was so cute i bought it anyway...)

you know, the usual.

i also started reading Nightwing from the new 52 and am totally hooked!!
i love dick grayson ;)

you see,
hal jordan is a hunk

(seen here with barry)

but he can also be a douche.

i also love wally west

but he's married. with kids.
and he also doesn't exist in the new 52 universe?! *iz confused and sad*

since i've been keeping up with JL and batman, i started missing dick grayson so i picked up some nightwings.

H O L Y C O W .

it is amazinggggg~~~

the plot line is awesome (especially if you've been keeping up with batman!! after i read it i was like * O * AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! NOOOOO!!! WHAAAAAAT!!!! for 5 minutes! and then i went back and read 1-7 again!!). and the art is superb as usual! a few cameos and tie ins make it super sweet. and it's got the perfect balance of action and lightness; bruce was getting a little depressing for me.

(digging the new red/black combo!)

*sigh* irrationally and irreconcilably in love...

fyi, march justice league was pretty funny, too! still enjoying it the most out of all the new 52 comics.
i can't wait for this months' releases!!

PS- i am missing hard copies of nightwing 2 and 4 if anyone wants to sell or trade to me... (i'm also missing a few zatannas but i think those are harder to come by).

this week, i am presenting my bacteria research to real scientists (and the people who gave me money this semester) at JABSoM. the poster looks really amazin', i'll be sharing it soon.

ciao ciao!

one month 'till neck of the woods...

How could they never notice?
What they planted in your spades
See you laughing in a picture
But I know what's out of frame
