zOMG!  this week's friday five is perfect!
by amazing coincidence, yesterday i posted a teal lookbook outfit and was about to spam it up in my blog for more hypes!! *pageview whore*

here's my outfit:

and here are my answers: (you can answer them for yourself or read others' answers here: http://f.riday5.com/?p=664 )

How many teal-colored items of clothing do you have, and which is your favorite?
don't ask me about quantities of clothes... i have a lot! haha. my most recent teal purchase was aforementioned dress. it's really interesting design and such a happy color. hopefully get to wear it several more times before summer is over.

There aren’t many teal-colored foods, but what comes pretty close and how do you feel about it?
mmmmm... at marukai they have ice pops in "cream soda" flavor. it's a pretty light blue color and doesn't taste like western cream soda... more like ramune but less sour. it's really refreshing after a bike ride, please try some! it will be on ad either next week or the week after (i just looked at the august ad yesterday) and can be found in the candy section (at room temperature). you can freeze one or all depending on how much freezer space you have. the lychee flavor is also good. :D

If yellow is the color of cowardice, green the color of envy, and blue the color of sadness, what’s teal the color of?
teal is turmoil, like an ocean. it's moving and not really one color or another, but rather a mixture.

What’s the neatest teal-colored thing you’ve seen recently?
you know me, obsessed with bikes and cards.

If you had to paint one of the rooms in your house teal, which would it be?
i'd paint the back room/family room. we have two large gyotaku (fish prints) and the teal would match the ocean theme. n___n

another teal thing i like:

TRON !!!!!

blue and glowy and shiny and fast, i love it!! but i still believe quorra stole my haircut. 8| had to change my diagonal bangs, after i saw this movie, to pointed bangs.

i'm even wearing a teal shirt now, as i type this! kismet!

cleaning house and dancing by myself at home today!
some random music from my playlist:

after that, if there's still time i will go to ala moana.
if there is no time, i will watch the movie i have borrowed from the library, bloom brothers.

i found it browsing the "international" section of the AV room so i'm not sure if it will be en anglais ou en français.  either way, looks to be a good laugh. :)

while practicing the california cut which i have just learned from here:

bon samedi!

(pun intended)

PS --

i missed out on the original JAQK cards, i am totally jumping on this!!
besides, i <3  red better.
check out the face cards, so pretty @ w @

here are my answers to this week's friday 5!
you can answer them for yourself or read others' answers here: http://f.riday5.com/?p=662

What’s something in your possession whose color has obviously faded?

i buy the same shoes every year or two (thanks to vans customs!).  here are some comparisons:

hot pink vans 2.0 meet 3.0
pair 2 &3

hot pink vans pair 4
pair 3 & 4

new year, new shoes (pink vans #5)

pair 5 & 4 *

my current pair is about halfway worn in.  it's not really hot pink anymore but it's still obviously pink, which is a good sign.  also, the suede is still black(ish).  usually i get my new pair when it's looking gray or brown.  by the time a new pair arrives the pink is almost gone and there may or may not be holes. i <3  vans!!!

*i would like to note that the old pair here is noticeably less "bus' up" than the previous years because i finally got a real job and could afford to get new sneakers before they were practically falling off my food.  also, it's kind of embarassing to work in a hospital with your scrubs and professional-looking lab coat and then you can see your feet through a hole in your shoes. >__<;;
i would also like to note that the soles of old skools are nice and grippy and i love walking in them!  but they do get thinner and a bit slippy as they get older and worn.  WHICH MAKES THEM PERFECT FOR SWING DANCING!! :D i fondly remember an epic spin this one time i went dancing...

Which of your talents, skills, or abilities has faded as you’ve grown older?

i haven't picked up a clarinet since high school and i don't think i can play at all now.  the fingering... i sort of remember.  reading music, i definitely remember (but don't ask me about bass clef).  but actually playing and the embouchure?  don't think i can. :(

and speaking of swing dancing, i can't really do that anymore either.

i don't think i can catch a water polo ball with one hand any more.

and i probably can't run a mile in 9 minutes.

but i haven't tried swinging or clarinet-ing or running (except after buses) or water polo-ing anytime recently. maybe it's like riding a bicycle or phlebotomy where you don't really forget...

Among people you know, who seems best able to fade into the background in a crowded room?

i nominate myself!  :X
i have awesome amazing friends with great social skills!
i am uncomfortable conversationalist #1. i'd rather be making the dinner than at the dinner party just so i don't have to talk to people.  i get nervous just thinking about going to my aunty's house for dinner! :(
but, uhhh, that doesn't mean i don't like PUBLIC SPEAKING.  i don't mind talking to strangers or large groups of people, thanks to speech and debate (one of my few personal accomplishments).  somehow it's always the one on one conversations that leave me tongue tied and wanting to blend in with the wall.

What song seems to have a ridiculously long fade-out at the end?

i'm not sure about a long fade out but a song with a long ending is GET READY 2 ROKK by freezepop.  i just looked it up on youtube and i'm getting a lot of hits for guitar hero?  i didn't know freezepop was on there!  :)  long story short, you MUST listen to the album version (it's on freezepop forever)!  you will know it because it starts off with one of the band members (was his name duke of pancakes? or something silly like that) the ending is so crazy, i believe there is a dinosaur growl in it?  and Liz says something like "ok the song's over now" and "that's what you get for rokking too long".  there's like a whole minute of extra ending guitarness!!!

my other favorite freezepop songs are: do you like my Wang™, harebrained scheme, bike theif, less talk more rokk, sprite, and brainpower.

// edit //

i've added a spotify playlist where you can listen to the crazy album version and the other mentioned songs!! :D

you're welcome.
i'm also including some songs that mention fading since that's the theme.  enjoy!

What recently prominent person seems to have faded quickly into oblivion?
there was a lot of hype about a video game called BRINK and then after its release i didn't hear anything about it.  same goes for the movie John Carter.

ok, the end.  working tonight time for me to fade away...

i've been to too many funerals this year.
i've been to too many funerals for this life time.

this week, i've been so productive!

i've biked everyday.  short rides but with good company. :)  yummiestars started riding with me, borrowing twinkies' bike. we usually go up to booth park and back.  she now has her own bike and more bikeventures are soon to come.

i finished a bunch of comics.  a bunch from the library (DID YOU KNOW BRAD MELTZER WROTE MORE COMICS BESIDES IDENTITY CRISIS?! zomg, Tornado's Path was really well done, please pick it up if you enjoy justice league!) and also catching up on the new 52.  and all i have to say is ZOMGGGGGG batman #10 !!!!!!!! i was reading it on my coffee break at work and i was like "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT THE F?!!!!!" what a shocker about Lincoln March!  and of course it ends in a cliff hanger. T____T  can't wait to see how it goes down.
as much as i wanted to love justice league dark, i was getting lost in the story when it started off- so many characters and a complicated story.  i still don't really understand how the vampire crossover ended.  but the new arc (start w/9) is getting me so excited!!  i am absolutely in love with house of mystery!  (re: cain and doctor occult)

i think constantine is a great main character for this series- you never know when to trust him or not!  the rest of the crew is equally secretive and it really throws a curve ball when you think you know what's going on.

i also set up a gentamycin/campy growth curve by myself.  also made 2 litres of TSA for the lab.  i went to the lab 4 times this week.  yup, pretty much live in labs.  but it's ok, it's nice there.

i went to a 4th of July barbecue (not held on 4th of July, i was working) with le boyfriend.  had so much fun playing wii!  also had fun with le boyfriend watching abe lincoln, vampire hunter!  it was pretty cool.  i KNEW the presidents had more secrets than they let on.

i watched three movies from the library this week.  i have to go to bed soon so i will talk about MOON, Everything is Illuminated, and Super 8 next post. ;)

ok, continuing my productive theme, i will do the friday five on a friday!  woo hoo!
the theme is disposable.  feel free to answer them for yourself or peruse others' answers: http://f.riday5.com/?p=655

What’s something whose disposable version has replaced its non-disposable version in your regular use?
can't survive w/o wooden chopsticks.  we use so much.  use it at almost every meal.  a small forest dies every year for my family because we are addicted to dispo chopsticks.

What disposable item do you almost never use because you greatly prefer the non-disposable version?
coffee cups.  i don't like paper coffee cups.  i like ceramic mugs.  they are warm and weighty and look nice and are good to hold.  my house has a lot of mugs.  we all share mugs but i have three that i normally use; a vespa mug, an iron chef mug, or diamond bakery mug.  i also have a little red riding hood mug that i use for tea only.  i like reusable cups in general.

however, i would like to make it a point that i disapprove of these reusable cups:

i do not approve. >:U

If they could somehow create a disposable version of something that (as far as you know) is currently not available in that format, what would you like to see?
sort of along the lines of disposable, i wish there were "single-serving" lip balm and lip stick.  i dislike something touching your face and then getting put back in the "stock solution" to incubate whatever normal flora was on your body then putting it back on your face later.  do i sound like a scientist or what? haha.  make up should be put on and used up or thrown away.  for example, when i'm sick, if i use a certain lip balm, straight from the tube i throw it away.   trying not to be wasteful, i often use q-tips to apply make up and never double dip.  :)  besides sample size, i don't think make up regularly comes in disposable, individually wrapped, single serving packets.  samples are usually single serving but don't come in all colors and you can't buy a year's supply of samples.  you can buy dispo applicators but if you don't double dip you are wasting a lot of applicators anyway.  single serving make up can allow you to double dip and also use your own applicators.  to solve ALL problems, i think i just need to get a UV light box and zap everything after i use it.  make up and applicators and all.  that will kill the bacteria and make it ok to use again.

What disposable item do you feel the most guilty about using?
i do tissue culture research and everything has to be absolutely sterile.  if you don't open the paper right on a dispo pipette the outside might touch the sterile part and you have to toss it before even using it.  i feel guilty... but i also don't want to compromise a week of work because of a single bacteria.

What disposables do you tend to use more than the usual amount before discarding?
we bake on parchment paper.  cool it, dust it.  then put it in a ziploc *in the fridge* (cold=bacteria's enemy) to use again.

disposable like memories
get older then get over me

this week has been very sleep deprived due to productivity.  :/
in fact, i'm off to bed now, have to work in a few hours!
