last week friday i got home from work and shoved a bunch of stuff in my bag and put on human clothes (as opposed to the pseudo-pajamas they make us wear at work) and biked up to kcc. crammed some last minute malonic ester synthesis in my brain then plowed through the ochem exam.
then, research meeting!
had a last minute run through of my ASM oral presentation. lots of good feedback about rearranging the graphs and formating my slides.
after meeting, i coerced my research buddies to join me on a bicycle ride. rob and tom also have red bicycles but in different styles! one mountain bike, one fixed gear track, and one single speed road- we make a fun group. we went down on 6th ave and rolled along date street. then they went to tend to their kids and i continued on to town. i biked to beretania foodland to buy a vitamin water for le pauvre boyfriend, stuck at work until 3pm.
// side note //
i finally graduated to a real, plastic maika`i card! woohooo... no more paper card, and i can finally rack up some rewards! i was so excited i told the person in line behind me, haha. i think it's taken me about 3 years to finally pass the trial card?

crossed the street and left my bicycle with le boyfriend in his car, caught a ride with my mom and sister to ala moana. i bought this dress
and i ran into yummiestars and la girafe! we walked and talked a bit until le boyfriend swooped me away... we went to eat dinner on the beach with his cousin, jet, back from the mainland for a visit, also d&j, the don wong, and ktengan. average food, average weather, infinte laughs and good company. :)
i got home after midnight. did my powerpoint edits at 2AM. -___-
saturday morning! up bright and early for my presentation. wore another f21 dress (sorry no pics) with a sweater and leggings, thank you cheap business wear. lol. rob was also presenting a poster there and got some good comments and interests from the big university brains. i'm excited for his phage project to finish up! as for my presentation... went well! i only had one question at the end, though so i was slightly disappointed... not sure if everyone digested my info right away. but in the end... got 3rd place overall! take that, you people with fancy degrees and equipment! i'm so grateful for the travel award and hope to do my lab proud at the general meeting. blog post about things i learned there: RETRACTIONS.
// side note //
i was sitting with some DOH people and i mentioned i wanted to go to the ASCLS meeting next months but would be out of town. not so sad because there is only one talk i wanted to see; using luminex for IDing things besides dengue and west nile...
well what do you know, two other presentations at ASM were about using luminex and the person giving the specific luminex talk at ASCLS is sitting next to me! i learned about the beads and the receptors and everything i wanted to know about luminex so now i don't feel guilty about not going. :)
// end side note //
after spending a whole day at the meeting in manoa, i bussed it home and take my bike out for a ride around the block. nice to stretch my legs after being cooped up in a tree (literally... i was hanging with the roosters at treetops restaurant) all morning! then i had a mini block party to celebrate the 2nd birthday of my cousin. my pops was the chef so good food to be had! party people:

sunday, up bright and early again for bai san. after many years, we have finally gotten our shit together and we are super organized! we can set up with out too much chaos and am happy to report there were no forest fires from us this year. another nice thing about prepping for bai san... kitchen snackings while dad is cooking everything up. ^^
my vacation days were mainly for those events but no point in vacation if you're not going to have fun! sunday after bai san i had a halo lan party. monday after AM class, i watched Oblivion (more on this later) with le boyfriend and co. then more halo! tuesday, more bicycleage and more halo! i also (finally) installed our new printer- has wireless capability, hello 21st century (hello, minecraft references).
wednesday, mexican food with yummiestars! waaaahhh we ate so much, toritos is the bomb! then we went to faceshop, because that's what girls do, and then i came home to play halo and edit photos.
