At a business establishment you patronize regularly, what might the employees refer to you as, when they speak of you behind your back?
zatanna! octopus tattoo! tall black coffee!
Similarly, at your places of employment, current and/or past, what do either the patrons or brand-new employees who don’t remember your name yet probably refer to you as?
girl with super short hair!
if i'm doing phlebotomy, i'm usually referred to as "lab person", "phleb", "blood person" or "vampire".
to my regular crew, i'm the interesting-socks person (see my twitter feed for example) / young-fart (i'm same age as my coworkers' kids :P ).
Aliens have come to earth to observe families and take notes. If each member of your family is listed as the one who __________, which are you? (bonus question: what are the others in your family written down as?)
i'm the calm person.
not that i'm not excitable. i just don't want to worry about the future too much. i like excitement, but no use getting all worked up in a situation... makes others more panicked or excited. (working on my zen)
You meet someone you had a crush on in high school, someone who didn’t know you felt that way (let’s say you meet him or her in the grocery store, and that the snow is falling Christmas Eve…). He or she doesn’t remember your name, but does remember you. How are you cataloged in this old crush’s memory?
If a hobby of yours were to have some kind of club, and if the other club members only knew you by your particular preferences, styles, or behaviors in that hobby, how would they refer to you?
well, in research group, i'm the campy (campylobacter) person and the clinical [lab] person.
out of my regular posse, i'm the bicycle person- everyone else would rather drive. *shrug*
as for hypotheticals, if i had a book club, i'd be the non-fiction person. and if i had a food eating club i'd be the chopsticks only person. and if i had a vans shoes club i would be hot pink old skools person.
soaked to the bone from nonstop rain at manoa bon dance, but somehow i'm still smiling!
everyone was pretty miserable from the down pour, not to mention the wind and having to stand up all night, but i was really happy just to be there. i danced almost all night and ate a lot of food! andagi-hot dogs, gau gee, teriyaki corn, chocolate cookies...
^ tarynasaurus' first time at bon dance!
hopefully my enthusiasm made the ghosts happy until next year. :)
before i danced the night away, i came home from a busy night at work (two codes at the same time, what!) and did some chores (laundry, what!) but i was too excited to take a nap (go figure) so i biked over to research lab to do some lab chores (streak my campy and check on the fusion clones, what!). then le boyfriend picked me up (awwww, how nice) and we watched samurai champloo and jeopardy before heading to manoa. so again i broke my resolution and had another +24hr wake cycle. :S i really ought to stop this bad habit (chronotherapy doesn't recommend) but i justified it by calling it practice for when the school semester starts.
What’s the outgoing message on your voicemail like? i use the default! ¬__¬ * when i read this post in my RSS the first question was "what's your keyring like?" so i will answer that question instead because my keys are more interesting than my phone.
(see my phone? no point in using a fancy voice mail for an unfancy phone.) i have house, bike & lab keys. flashlight, presta valve adapter and my trusty trooper. notice he's new? version 1 and it's twin got retired. :D
What’s the wallpaper on your computer like?
custom artwork by the lovely and talented jjak ! yes, it is me and le boyfriend playing minecraft! (and if anyone wants to draw me or us, i pay for commissions!)
and on my desktop... i like clean desks (that way you can see the art!) so i have no folders, ha!
houdini is my hard drive and the date/time/calendar is rainlendar.
my menu bar has shades (adjusts screen brightness range beyond built in controls; i have changed the icon to an aperture), alarm clock, [the rainlendar icon], remember (a simple to do list- i use it like a note pad), caffeine (stops you computer from sleeping and dimming), and then all the regular system icons.
my dock is hidden to further reduce clutter. :)
What’s stuck to your fridge door? "CLONING PROTOCOL"
*note: since this picture was taken, i have upgraded our lab to magnets instead of tape. :)
What’s your daily organizer like? you know i don't have a smart phone so obviously i don't have internet with me. when i'm connected, i use remember the milk! but when i'm out and about i use good old fashion paper:
What’s the signature on your personal emails like? i don't have one! should i make one? i don't like to clutter mél with more text than necessary, but sometimes a quote in a signature is a nice personality window! as for actually signing? i just use an initial, unless it's formal communication.
and finally, the friday5 title IMMEDIATELY reminded me of this song...
have you ever tried to make your own pasta?
it's really easy and only requires three ingredients! not to mention, if you are on a budget, this is a really cheap recipe and also filling.
it can also be really impressive if you are cooking for others because 95% of the people i know buys it premade. i'm not a total DIY evangelist; "do what's simple and good!" is my motto. hell, my pops is a professional chef and his favorite thing is frozen corn dogs. i just thought i'd give pasta making a try for fun. hope you'll give it a try too! let me know if your experience was as fun as mine. :)
make a little well in the middle of the flour and add 2 eggs
* traditionally, you make this on a board or counter. yes, just pour the flour on the counter. well, i'm messy and microbiologist don't approve of raw eggs and flour on the counter so i'm using a bowl. but suit yourself, eh? ;)
use a fork, start beating the eggs in the middle, combining the flour slowly
it comes together quite quickly
when it's getting firm, flour your counter** and start kneading
** again, i don't do the counter thing, especially because i have a speckled counter and you can't see how clean (or dirty) it really is. i went for a large tray, with some plastic wrap so it's not so hard to clean up.
i actually have a Pasta Queen but i looked in the box, saw a C-Clamp and rollers and blades and decided that was too much work to set up. i'm a blood gal, i ain't no engineer!
instead i rolled it out by hand. make sure you flour it in between!
rolling thinner is better, they puff up a little when you cook it.
i cut linguine size pasta, you can go thinner or thicker strips. i think this recipe would make great won ton pi as well! depending how big the sheet you are cutting from, a pizza cutter is a better cutting tool than a knife. i like to use a 8" utility so it was a bit difficult on the bigger pieces. the pizza cutter idea, i rightfully attribute to @wild_twinkies .
flour everything in between! the dough is very stretchy, if you don't flour it gets hard to work with. this is when i started wishing i used the Pasta Queen. :/
pretty soon you have a nice little bowl of pasta!
boil in salted water
then finish it in a skillet with your favorite ingredients and sauce. i chose to dine on marinara sauce with frozen chopped spinach, mushrooms
^ these are from chinatown
what ever you are adding, don't forget salt and pepper, and top with parmesan or mozarella cheese.
