oh man, i take back everything i said in last post.
today i went to power yoga and then aerial yoga and i now feel like a rag doll.  like... i'm literally having difficulty lifting my arms up. and all the blood vessels in my legs are popping out.  ughhh, work is going to be awesome tonight. ¬___¬
on the other hand, aerial pigeon?  hey, i can do that!  :)  i love my saturdays again.
also tried tripod headstand in power yoga today.  something i'll be practicing at home for sure, thanks to dorian!

i was going to do the friday5 but the questions are tough, this week.  i need sometime to stew.

instead i leave you with a delicious video!  who wants to go get won ton mein with meeeee? :D

it's been a little over a month of weekly yoga and i am happily surprised to report improvement!
as i might have mentioned before, i thought yoga was about glorified stretching and "ommmmm" but it's been a fun and challenging work out (my god, i have never sweat so much in my life!!!) and i'm actually seeing improvement to my physique!  i started out going once a week (75 minutes), now i'm going three times a week, and sometimes i'll stretch a bit at home too.
noticeable improvements:

  1. i can bakasana on command (old noodle arms might have a little meat in them after all!)
  2. better posture- i think the wheel/bridge and twists have strengthened my back muscles.  i slouch a lot less now.  amazing, i know, i didn't think this was possible!
  3. double toe hold- omg, i finally accomplished it last week!  now i can do it all the time!

my next goals:

  1. eka pada bakasana!
  2. looser hamstrings (must straighten legs!)
  3. stronger arms (MUST. DO. HANDSTANDS.)

i can't stop thinking about Phantogram, recently.
i just woke up last night and thought "and we're all going down- all down the staircase aboard" and i knew i was going to be looping Eyelid Movies in my head all night.

and now, here's the friday5
answer for yourself or see others' answers here: http://f.riday5.com/?p=859
  1. What’s something you think you could have been good at, if you’d started at a young age?

  2. What TV show’s theme song do you really like?

i liked "all along the watch tower..." having a big part in battlestar galactica.

i also liked the acoustic version of Gold, Guns, Girls for some evening drama about a dead mobster's wife.  i don't even remember the name of the show, i just remember hearing METRIC!!!!!

    anime has great theme songs!
can i interest you in some FLCL?

    or cowboy bebop?

and how about the wonderful mash up that is samurai champloo?

  3. What’s the dumbest dare you ever took, or what’s the dumbest dare you witnessed someone taking?

    i don't do dumb dares.  -___-

but this was not a good idea...

    this is a bad idea
don't try it at home, kids.

  4. What’s the most exotic thing you’ve eaten?

ostrich.  or alligator.  carrot sprouts (they are small and green... looks like kaiware but thin pointy leaves.  tastes like ORANGE CARROTS. the fact that they are green is sort of a mind fuck.)  1000 year old eggs are considered exotic... but i think they are on the normal end of the spectrum.  lots of chinese food is in the category- jelly fish, sea cucumber, fish bladders...
i'll eat anything and everything (but no bugs).  so,
    bring. it. on.

  5. What was the last thing you changed the batteries for?

    wireless rock band guitar.

you know how some people discover religion and suddenly they are a different person?
i think i've just had a similar epiphany... i have discovered yoga.
i am addicted!
i have never felt so simultaneously challenged and euphoric at the same time!  it's such a conflicting feeling and i love it!  my athletic abilities... obviously very lacking so in the class, i struggle to hold planks and i'm sweating buckets- a literal hot mess.  but i think the reason i am enjoying this is there are very clear goals.  i am going to work at my yoga until i achieve this pose! yes, how sad, i only exercise because it's a form of achievement hunting (thank you, xbox, for turning me into a crazy person) but that's just how my brain works.  it's a great mood lifter.  i'm always excited to go because the instructor does a different flow in every class.  and even after all the sweat and pain i'm feeling refreshed when i leave.  yes, there is pain.  my noodle arms can't carry the saline cubes at work after that.  and my legs are wobbly going down the stairs.  i'm feeling muscles being stretched i didn't know i had!  and yet... i keep coming back for more pain.
it's like a reminder that i'm still alive- the part of my week that i don't think about the chaos of work, the mountains of homework, and the road blocks in my research.  just focusing on the task at hand.
if you need some euphoria in your life: http://www.poweryogahawaii.com
(i think the great instructors, like lehua, have something to do with the awesomeness.)

as much as i seem to deny it, i guess my life is quite active- if not athletic.  now that i'm doing time at UH i've got non-stop days from 11p for work then going straight to school after that until 4:30p.  then on tuesday and thursday i go to diamond head for research and yoga in the afternoon.  and on saturday there is aerial yoga and try to spend some time with le boyfriend before work again...
it means i can fill my closet with sweat wicking clothing and comfy shoes. tee hee! * u *  hooray for shopping!  i found some awesome nike leggings at ross for only $18.  i think the original price was $60!  also found some asics there for $18!

there are sakura on the bottom!

now i can leave a pair of shoes at work so i can wear slippers to school. ^^  ahhh... i enjoy being a girl...

enjoy the labor day holiday!
