on saturday i went head first from 5ft off the ground into some hardwood floor... but, no stroke or seizures or nausea so i just carried on with the rest of my daily life. the next 48hrs was aches everywhere but i sort of expected that from my exercise habits. and i already had a stiff neck from leaning over the TINY DESKS IN KUYKENDAL HALL (you guys know what i'm talking about right!!!? those desks are a disgrace!) for four hours, sitting my two back to back final exams.
monday and tuesday were really really bad headaches and the strangest thing happened, i could not stand listening to any music! usually i have some kind of exciting music at work to keep the energy level up, especially during morning rounds. but on monday i just could not stand listening to anything! especially fast music sounded... noisey? confusing? it was the strangest feeling, not like irritation or anger, i just wanted to not hear it. it reminded me of a whole bunch of people talking at once with an overlay of radio static and car alarms, and not on purpose. on tuesday i was training some summer lab students our tissue culture techniques and i could not remember the procedure for turning on the autoclave. i've done this tons of times before but i could not for the life of me remember where the alternate breaker switch was and i almost (ALMOST!) forgot to turn the water valve on first. at this point i decided... this concussion is for real and i should not make any major decisions or do any risky athletics for the rest of the week.
this kind of sucks because summer just started! and summer school is about to start so i wanted to squeeze in many bike rides and beach days before shit gets crazy again! but it's for the best, considering my last major accidents occurred on zero sleep and my own bad judgement. :| also, still have a headache and due to the type of injury, could last for another 10 days.
hello, aceta, i love you. you are the only way i can ride the bus for two hours, do a day of lab work, and act like a normal person!
under circumstances, this week is not a total loss.
on tuesday i had tacos with le boyfriend from whole foods ($1.99 ! with pico de gallo!) and i FINALLY watched Interstellar! yes, i finally saw this movie (i somehow managed to avoid spoilers this whole time!) and it was great. i feel like reading SPHERE (www.goodreads.com/book/show/455373.Sphere) and 11-22-63 (www.goodreads.com/book/show/10644930-11-22-63) and watching primer (http://erbpfilm.com/film/primer) helped in understanding time + dimensions. my favorite part was the sound engineering... the use of silence is just as effective as the use of loud, booming explosions in some cases.
here is some brambles for today's music selection. easy music for brain recovery.
