I GET HIGH TO THE RADIO

And so the cycle begins again...
except for this whole year (my last year!) i have no microbiology classes!
i feel so... out of my element!
at least i had a nice send off- my first ever A+ from UH Manoa, yey!!!

i mean, i was pretty sure i was going to pass, but the last exam was kind of a bitch... totally not expecting an A+!
all i have left are physics, biochem, and garden variety writing intensives.  who would have thought i'd be taking classic roman literature? i have a pretty decent knowledge of biology and microbiology and genetics to get by in a half awake state with only ugly handwriting lecture notes (you'll never guess how many times i showed up to class not knowing we had an exam and just winged it).  but now i have to study super hard, because i have no background knowledge of physics and stuff.  the Aeneid is what we are reading in literature now, it's not as bad as i thought!  but still, it takes time to read and digest.  also, Odyssey and Iliad are assumed knowledge and yes i read it but... it's been over a decade since i thought about it.  i didn't watch the [relatively] recent Troy movie either.  i guess i have to go get it from the library for a refresher.

i can't believe only three weeks ago i was still debating whether or not i should sign up for friday night trapeze class at samadhi?  i think i only spend about 4 hrs at my own house, jesus christ how am i supposed to incorporate an additional extra curricular activity in my schedule.  -___-  i can't even go to yoga any more, so much homework or recitations or research lab stuff or just frakking tired.  school is destroying me now!  too much coffee and not enough real food and taking naps in the hallways and waiting at the bus stop in the dark on alakea street... *dying*
on the bright side, just have to power through this semester!  the end is near!  ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ
also, we are submitting to ASM GM again this year.  2015 annual meeting is in new orleans, i super want to go! i'm second author this time so even if the abstract is accepted i might not make it there.  but a win for anyone in campy group is a win for us all!  dan is first author and he deserves it; our super special patented system is tiiiiiiight!  invasion assays are back on, bitches!

here is a NSFW music video of good fast punk music,
looking forward to Spray Paint the Dog 7" .

"LOVE'S NOT THE ANSWERRRRR!"

and here is some disco-y fun electro music, i heard it on the radio when le boyfriend was driving me home one night and i got hooked!  i haven't thought about this band in a long time.  really dig the line "academy killer"- not sure what it means, though.

and this cover is so good!!!  it came up on my itunes shuffle one time when i was riding the bus home after dark and now i listen to it every night on my commute.  joy division just seems like night time music for some reason. : )

and here's a random picture from my flickr

EVEN WHEN I SLEEP ALL DAY

and on my last day of winter break...

i came home from work and ate oranges and toong mai and arare for breakfast (because i am an adult.) while watching the finale of on the spot:

and then i took a hot shower and slept until the afternoon.

and then i watched pacific rim again (seriously.  love this movie.)
i noticed some tid bits i didn't pick up before.
like the PPDC.  looks like some kind of military police?  but why PPDC (pan pacific defense corps)?  i feel like it should have been pacific rim defense corps to match the title!
i saw before, gipsy danger has a pin up girl as the logo.  i only noticed today the stryker's logo is a bull dog biting a rocket!
also, the nuke they planned to use to blow up the breach came from the russians.
for the record, i love the name shatterdome.

Pacific Rim Bloopers by gojifan93

i was going to go for a bike ride around pauoa after that but i got called into work early tonight.  so i packed my back pack for tomorrow and made dinner for later and now it's lights out for an hour.  heading straight from straub to UH tomorrow, i guess i'll see you on the other side of chaos!

happy sunday,
c.

Lost in the patterns of youth where the windows shine brightly back at you

yesterday i did end up going to yoga.  my back was still a little achy and yoga was just what i needed!  i did a cobbler's pose but on my back and i finally felt that crunchy relief of the vertebrae in my lumbar curve.  i don't need a chiropractor, just some hard wood floor and good instructions. :)
and no, interstellar is no longer in the theatre.  T___T

today i was relatively productive.  "productive".  a good day, whatever you call it.
last night at work was so insane! only me and one other tech covering three departments with one phlebotomist drawing the entire hospital.  and fraaaaaaak the hospital census is over 100 patients...
when i got home all i could do was take a hot shower (the cure for everything), pour a cup of coffee and collapse on the sofa in a hoodie and a bunch of pillows. (- u -  ) ☕︎ ♥︎ bliss!
i watched TRON Legacy while drifting in and out of sleep.

and then i watched pacific rim (thank you for the xmas present, @wild_twinkies!) while making these garlic cheese balls:

Garlic Cheese Balls

and then i painted my nails- it's a glamorous taupe color with ultrafine gold glitter (thank you for the xmas present, @yummiestars!)

and practiced my cascade

video

(these fultons are harder to faro than my skulls,  interesting).  i feel apprehensive about letting the cards go smoothly.  one day it will be pretty!  at least the nail polish makes me feel like a rich bitch! ;)

and then the mail man came with a package from deathwish!

S U N B A T H E R

and now for a real sleep before going to work again.

GCF

last week i was so unproductive- mostly curled up in bed recovering from virus.
-__- even the new year's eve was a party poop because my whole house was sick.  however, it didn't deter us pyromaniacs from setting a fire or two at midnight but that is a story for next time...

this week i'm trying to do more fun things before its back to school.  i am really enjoying this come-home-from-work-and-take-a-nap thing.  if i had another week off from school i might enjoy it too much and never go back!

i'm reading two books right now.

EDGE by Koji Suzuki

Edge

so far, a reporter is investigating several unsolved disappearances.  in another [so far] unrelated chapter, several computers are calculating π and coming up with wrong answers.  some math and physics grad students are investigating.  i can't wait to see how these two plots are going to converge...

THE CHECKLIST MANIFESTO by Atul Gawande

The Checklist Manifesto: How to Get Things Right

i've been waiting to read this for several months!  so far, Dr Gawande described a major problem with today's medical practice: information overload.  even with more staff and more specialists, things can still get missed and one error can mean life or death.  info overload is not isolated to health care either.  any job that requires multi tasking or is high complexity has the same problem.

i also borrowed

A YEAR OF DISAPPEARANCES by Susan Hubbard

The Year of Disappearances (Ethical Vampire, #2)

but i haven't started reading it yet.  i might not end up reading it because i have to return it soon and Society of S

The Society of S (Ethical Vampire, #1)

gets only average marks from me.  if want a vampire story, i think The Quick

The Quick

was better because it was scientifically more methodical, featured a circus performer, and took place in the victorian era.

on tuesday i went on a bike ride.  i tried to go the length of king street cycle track but the beginning was blocked by construction. :(

i went to kcc to get some paperwork.  i went around diamond head.  i climbed a tree so i could hang upside down (one week without aerial and i'm having withdrawals, haha.  i really needed to stretch my back and test my arms!).  i went to magic island and gazed at the ocean.

first bikeventure of the year

i ate shave ice.

i got a leg cramp at the top of queen emma street but made it home.  i hate hills!

after that i went to get tea with yummiestars

http://www.mrteacafe.com

(i recommend roasted oolong milk tea with boba)

and then we played board games

PANDEMIC: http://waa.ai/4N6k

TICKET TO RIDE: http://waa.ai/4N6z

with some friends until midnight.  when i got home i tried to sleep.  and couldn't.  so i played destiny until 4am, haha.  level 25 now, finally!

on wednesday i went to kaimana beach with yummiestars.

and then we had soondubu and hae mul pa jun at cho dang.

:9  so tasty!  i could eat that every daaaaaaay...

i just came home from work so i'm going to attempt a nap.  and then today, maybe yoga.  or, watch interstellar.  (am i the last person on this island to see it?  i hope its still even in the theatre!)  and buy groceries and go to the post office.

also, i have this song stuck in my head for the past few days:

OTHER

my first friday5 of the year.
answer for yourself or see others' answers here: http://f.riday5.com/?p=1121
  1. Besides cookies, muffins, and ice cream, what’s something chocolate chips are good in?
    pancakes?
  2. Besides official holidays and your birthday, what’s the best day of the year?
chinese new year?  any day involving good food and fireworks is ok with me.
  3. Besides toilet paper and pantry items, what’s something in your house you make sure never to run out of?
    COFFEE.
  4. Besides relatives, teachers, and coaches, who gave you the most memorable advice growing up?
The great sage Mike Lau.  he's a med tech who told me to do a thing because it's hard.  it's how you get better.  synovial fluid with crystals and weird cells? bring it on!
  5. Besides junk mail, subscriptions, greeting cards, and stuff you ordered online, what’s something great that came in the mail recently?
    paycheck! ;D

these questions kind of took all the good answers!  i had to dig deep for some alternatives.  i mean, what else could you possibly eat chocolate chips with?!  and what other mail do you get besides junk, subs, cards, and packages do you get? that's kind of my whole life right there, besides newspaper.  but i guess that goes with magazines into subscriptions category.
any way.

here, have some WILDHONEY:

you can listen while you practice your L-cuts (thanks, http://www.dealersgrip.com, i've always had trouble with the thumb grip.)
